EN 50090

EN 50090 is a European standard that defines the communication protocol for home and building automation systems, more commonly known as KNX (formerly known as EIB, EHS and BatiBUS). It specifies the physical layer, data link layer, network layer, and transport layer protocols necessary for devices from different manufacturers to interoperate within a KNX installation. The standard ensures interoperability and compatibility between KNX devices, enabling a comprehensive and integrated approach to controlling various building functions, such as lighting, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, security, and energy management. It also addresses system aspects like installation, commissioning, and maintenance of KNX systems. The EN 50090 standard is maintained and updated by CENELEC, the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization. The standard's scope is European, but KNX is used worldwide.
