St Andrews (Old) railway station

St Andrews (Old) railway station was the original and primary railway station serving the town of St Andrews, Fife, Scotland. Opened in 1852, it was the terminus of the St Andrews Railway, a branch line that connected to the Edinburgh and Northern Railway main line at Leuchars.

The station was located on the south side of the town, near the Scores and the Old Course golf course. It boasted a substantial station building, a goods yard, and a turntable.

The station remained in operation until 1969 when the St Andrews branch line was closed as part of the Beeching cuts. The station buildings were subsequently demolished, and the site has since been redeveloped, primarily as a bus station and car park. Little remains of the original railway infrastructure.

Despite its closure, the name "St Andrews Railway Station" is still frequently used informally to refer to the current bus station in the town, reflecting the historical significance of the site as a transport hub. The closure of the railway is often cited as a significant loss to the town's connectivity and a factor impacting local tourism.
