NGC 846
NGC 846 is a barred spiral galaxy located approximately 220 million light-years away in the constellation Andromeda. It was discovered on November 22, 1876, by Édouard Stephan.
NGC 846 is classified as SB(s)a, indicating that it is a barred spiral galaxy with loosely wound spiral arms. The "SB" designation signifies the presence of a central bar structure. The "(s)" indicates that the spiral arms originate directly from the ends of the bar, rather than forming a ring. The "a" designation suggests tightly wound, smooth arms and a large, bright central bulge.
It is considered part of the galaxy cluster Abell 262. The galaxy's reddish color is caused by the dust in its structure and the presence of older stars. Further study may be needed to determine if NGC 846 is interacting with other galaxies in Abell 262.
