Isobucaine

Isobucaine is a local anesthetic. It is an ester-type local anesthetic, belonging to the same general class as procaine and tetracaine. Isobucaine functions by blocking nerve impulses, thereby preventing the transmission of pain signals. It is primarily used for infiltration and nerve block anesthesia in dental procedures. As an ester-type anesthetic, isobucaine is metabolized by plasma cholinesterases. The metabolism of isobucaine results in para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), a known allergen in some individuals. Due to its potential for allergic reactions related to PABA, it is sometimes avoided in patients with known sensitivities to ester anesthetics or PABA-related compounds. Common side effects of isobucaine are similar to those of other local anesthetics and may include temporary numbness, tingling, and potential allergic reactions ranging from mild skin irritation to more severe systemic responses.
