The Goose Girl (1957 film)
The Goose Girl (German: Die Gänsemagd) is a 1957 West German fantasy film directed by Fritz Genschow, based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale of the same name. The film tells the story of a princess, here named Aurelia, who is betrayed by her lady-in-waiting and forced to work as a goose girl before eventually reclaiming her rightful place. The film stars Rita-Maria Nowotny as Aurelia and Harry Wüstenhagen as the king. Genschow was known for his adaptations of classic fairy tales, and The Goose Girl is considered one of his best-known works. While visually simple by modern standards, the film was popular in Germany and has been shown internationally.
