10 Rater

A 10 Rater, also frequently stylized as "Ten Rater," is an informal term in various online rating communities (primarily those related to visual media like movies, television shows, music, or games) denoting an individual who consistently awards the highest possible rating (typically a 10 out of 10, or equivalent) to a substantial portion of the media they review or rate.

The term is often used pejoratively to suggest a lack of critical discernment or objectivity on the part of the rater. A 10 Rater may be perceived as having overly generous or undemanding criteria for what constitutes excellence, thereby diminishing the value and usefulness of their ratings to others seeking reliable recommendations or assessments. Their high ratings, being commonplace, lose their significance as indicators of exceptional quality.

The opposite of a 10 Rater might be referred to as a "1 Rater" (or the lowest possible rating), who consistently gives the lowest scores. Both extremes are typically viewed with skepticism within rating communities. The ideal rater is generally considered to be someone who distributes their ratings across the entire spectrum, providing nuanced justifications for their assessments.
