Bermondsey West (London County Council constituency)
Bermondsey West was a constituency used for elections to the London County Council (LCC) between 1919 and 1949. It returned two county councillors.
Boundaries:
The constituency comprised the western part of the Metropolitan Borough of Bermondsey. Its boundaries were adjusted several times throughout its existence to reflect population changes and boundary revisions within the Borough. Generally, it encompassed the areas of Bermondsey closer to the City of London.
Political Representation:
Bermondsey West was generally a Labour-held seat, reflecting the strong working-class political leanings of the area. However, during periods of national political realignment or local factors, other parties, such as the Municipal Reform Party (affiliated with the Conservative Party) and sometimes Liberals, would occasionally win seats.
History:
The constituency was created in 1919, replacing the previous two-member Bermondsey constituency. It was abolished in 1949 when the LCC electoral divisions were redrawn, and Bermondsey was divided into single-member constituencies.
