Sutatenza

Sutatenza is a town and municipality in the Boyacá Department, Colombia, located approximately 88 kilometers northeast of Bogotá. It is part of the province of Oriente.

Sutatenza is notable for its strong Catholic influence and its history intertwined with the development of rural radio education in Colombia. The Acción Cultural Popular (ACPO), a Catholic organization, established its headquarters and radio station, Radio Sutatenza, in the town in 1947. Radio Sutatenza played a significant role in educating and evangelizing rural communities across Colombia through radio broadcasts, printed materials, and leadership training programs. The town became a center for this movement, attracting educators, journalists, and religious figures.

The economy of Sutatenza is primarily based on agriculture, including the cultivation of potatoes, corn, and other crops. Tourism related to the historical significance of Radio Sutatenza also contributes to the local economy. The town features a museum dedicated to the history of Radio Sutatenza and ACPO.
