Henry Grattan (junior)
Henry Grattan (junior) (c. 1790 - 1861) was an Irish politician and barrister, the son of the renowned Irish parliamentarian Henry Grattan (1746-1820). He attempted to follow in his father's footsteps, although with less success.
He was called to the Irish Bar and practiced law. He entered politics, representing Dublin City in the British Parliament from 1826 to 1830 and again from 1831 to 1832. His political career was largely defined by his efforts to uphold and defend the legacy of his father, advocating for similar constitutional and parliamentary reforms in Ireland. He supported Catholic Emancipation and other measures aimed at improving the social and political standing of the Irish people.
However, he never achieved the same level of influence or acclaim as his father. He is often remembered primarily as the son of a more famous figure rather than for his own independent accomplishments. Later in life, he faced financial difficulties and spent time in France. He is buried in Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris.
