Resistance (TV series)
Resistance, sometimes marketed as Rebellion, is an Irish historical drama television series created by Colin Teevan for RTÉ. It premiered on RTÉ One on January 7, 2019.
The series is a sequel to the 2016 miniseries Rebellion, picking up the story six years later, in 1922, during the Irish War of Independence. While Rebellion focused on the Easter Rising of 1916, Resistance portrays the conflict between the Irish Republican Army (IRA) and the British forces following the Anglo-Irish Treaty.
The plot revolves around the activities of a fictional group of IRA volunteers and their families as they navigate the dangerous political landscape and the escalating violence of the period. The series explores the moral complexities of war and the personal sacrifices made by those involved in the fight for Irish independence.
The main cast features actors such as Brian Gleeson, Simone Kirby, and Robert Sheehan, reprising their roles from Rebellion. New characters are introduced as well, expanding the scope of the narrative.
The series was generally well-received by critics, who praised its production values, performances, and historical accuracy. However, it also faced some criticism for its portrayal of certain historical figures and events. Resistance aired for one season, consisting of five episodes.
