SM UC-2

SM UC-2 was a German Type UC I coastal minelaying submarine (U-boat) of the Imperial German Navy (Kaiserliche Marine) during World War I. She was commissioned on July 8, 1915, and served in the Flanders Flotilla. UC-2 was primarily responsible for laying mines in the English Channel and off the east coast of England.

UC-2 had a relatively short career, being sunk on July 1, 1915, off Great Yarmouth, England, by the British patrol boat HMS Halcyon. The commander, Egon von Werner, and the entire crew of 15 were lost. The wreck lies at approximately 52°40'N 01°50'E. UC-2's service, though brief, contributed to the overall U-boat campaign waged by Germany during the war. As a Type UC I minelayer, its design prioritized small size and shallow draft for operating close to enemy coastlines. Her mines were a significant hazard to Allied shipping.
