Tim Genis
Tim Genis (born c. 1969) is an American timpanist. He is the principal timpanist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Pops Orchestra, a position he has held since 1997.
Genis began his musical studies with his father, a professional percussionist. He earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music. Prior to joining the Boston Symphony Orchestra, he was a member of the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.
As principal timpanist, Genis is responsible for leading the timpani section and performing solo passages in orchestral works. He is known for his technical skill, musicality, and his ability to create a wide range of timbral colors on the instrument.
In addition to his orchestral work, Genis is an active soloist and chamber musician. He has performed with a variety of ensembles, and has given master classes and clinics at universities and conservatories throughout the United States and internationally. He also designs and manufactures timpani mallets, marketed under his own brand.
