Ulanów
Ulanów is a town in Nisko County, Subcarpathian Voivodeship, in southeastern Poland. It is situated at the confluence of the San and Tanew rivers. As of 2021, its population was approximately 1,400.
History:
Ulanów's history dates back to the 17th century. It was founded as a private town by Stanisław Ulina, a courtier of King Władysław IV Vasa, and named after him. The town was granted Magdeburg rights in 1633. For centuries, Ulanów was a significant river port and center for the timber trade due to its location on the San River. Flisacy (raftsmen) of Ulanów were known for their skill and played an important role in transporting goods down the Vistula River to Gdańsk and beyond. Over the centuries, Ulanów experienced periods of growth and decline, influenced by wars, economic changes, and political shifts. It was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire after the Partitions of Poland. Following World War I, it became part of independent Poland. During World War II, the town was occupied by Nazi Germany.
