Roy Young (educator)

Roy Young (born c. 1933, died January 24, 2023) was an American educator and administrator, primarily known for his long tenure as President of Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio.

Young dedicated much of his career to historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs). Prior to his presidency at Central State University, he held various positions at other institutions, including serving as a professor and administrator.

He became the sixth president of Central State University in 1985 and served until his retirement in 2001. During his time as president, Young focused on improving academic programs, increasing enrollment, and enhancing the university's financial stability. He also worked to strengthen the university's relationships with alumni and the local community. His leadership was marked by efforts to expand the university's physical infrastructure and to modernize its curriculum.

Following his retirement from Central State University, Young remained active in higher education and community affairs. His contributions to HBCUs and to the field of education were widely recognized throughout his career. He received numerous awards and honors for his leadership and service.
