Morawiany

Morawiany is a historical and geographic term referring to the inhabitants of Moravia, a historical region in the Czech Republic. The term can also refer to things related to or originating from Moravia.

Historically, "Morawiany" (the spelling varies depending on language and historical period) might have been used as an ethnonym for the West Slavic people who inhabited Great Moravia, a powerful Slavic state that existed from the 9th to the early 10th centuries. Following the dissolution of Great Moravia, the term continued to refer to the inhabitants of the region that became known as Moravia, primarily under Bohemian (later Czech) rule within the Holy Roman Empire and later the Austrian Empire/Austro-Hungarian Empire.

The word is often used in historical and ethnographic contexts to describe the culture, language, and traditions of the people of Moravia. While the primary language spoken in Moravia today is Czech, the Moravian dialectal group is distinct. The identity of Morawiany as a distinct regional group persists within the modern Czech Republic.
