Barbara Parker (California politician)

Barbara Parker (born February 1, 1948, died May 10, 2023) was an American politician and attorney who served as the City Attorney of Oakland, California, from 2011 until her death in 2023.

Parker began her career as a civil rights attorney, focusing on issues of racial justice and police misconduct. Prior to her election as City Attorney, she served as a Deputy City Attorney in Oakland for 24 years.

As City Attorney, Parker oversaw the city's legal affairs, advising the Mayor, City Council, and city departments on legal matters. She also represented the city in litigation. During her tenure, she focused on issues such as fighting illegal dumping, addressing predatory lending, and advocating for tenants' rights. She was known for her progressive stance on legal issues and her commitment to social justice.

Parker was a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, and Boalt Hall School of Law (now UC Berkeley School of Law).
