Laughing Gas (1914 film)

Laughing Gas is a 1914 American silent comedy short starring Charlie Chaplin. It was written and directed by Chaplin and produced by Mack Sennett for Keystone Studios.

The film depicts Chaplin as a dental assistant who creates chaos at a dentist's office. His character, identifiable by his Tramp persona, clumsily administers nitrous oxide ("laughing gas") to patients, causing them to experience uncontrollable laughter. He then proceeds to cause further disruption both inside the dentist's office and out on the street.

The film is notable for being one of Chaplin's earlier works and features many of the slapstick comedic elements that would come to define his style. It showcases his physical comedy skills, including pratfalls, exaggerated gestures, and interactions with props.

The cast includes Fritz Schade as the dentist and Alice Davenport as a patient. Laughing Gas is considered a significant example of early silent film comedy and remains available for viewing today.
