John Austin (bishop)

John Austin (died 1483) was an English clergyman who served as the Bishop of Bangor.

Austin's early life and career are not well documented. He was appointed Bishop of Bangor in 1475, succeeding Thomas Skeffington. His tenure occurred during the Wars of the Roses, a turbulent period in English history.

As Bishop of Bangor, Austin would have been responsible for the spiritual and administrative oversight of the diocese, including the ordination of priests, the maintenance of church property, and the enforcement of church law. Bangor, located in North Wales, was a relatively poor diocese, and its bishops often faced challenges in maintaining their authority and revenue.

John Austin died in 1483. He was succeeded as Bishop of Bangor by Thomas Langton. While few specific details of his episcopate survive, his appointment and service represent a connection to the broader political and religious landscape of 15th-century England.
