Michael Hopkins (basketball)

Michael Hopkins is a former American college basketball player and current college basketball coach. He is currently the head coach for the University of Washington men's basketball team.

Hopkins played college basketball at Syracuse University from 1993 to 1996 under head coach Jim Boeheim. He primarily played the guard position.

After his playing career, Hopkins joined the Syracuse coaching staff as an assistant coach in 1996. He served in that role for 22 seasons, becoming known for his recruiting abilities and defensive strategies. He was often considered Boeheim's eventual successor.

In 2017, Hopkins was hired as the head coach of the University of Washington. In his second season (2018-2019), he led the Huskies to the Pac-12 regular season championship and was named Pac-12 Coach of the Year.
