José Lima
José Desiderio Rodriguez Lima (September 30, 1972 – May 23, 2010) was a Dominican professional baseball pitcher in Major League Baseball (MLB). He played for the Detroit Tigers, Houston Astros, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets, and Texas Rangers from 1994 to 2006 and again in 2009 with the Mets.
Lima was known for his flamboyant personality and infectious enthusiasm, earning him the nickname "Lima Time." He was a popular figure both on and off the field, known for his singing and dancing.
Lima's most successful season was with the Houston Astros in 1999, when he went 21-10 with a 3.58 ERA and led the National League in wins. He was also named an All-Star that year. He helped the Astros reach the National League Division Series that season.
After his MLB career, Lima played in the Mexican League and for an independent league team. He also worked as a broadcaster for ESPN Deportes.
Lima died of a heart attack on May 23, 2010, at the age of 37. His sudden death shocked the baseball world and he was remembered fondly for his positive spirit and contributions to the game.
