West (brewery)

West Brewery is a Scottish brewery and bar located in Glasgow, Scotland. Founded in 2006, it is notable for adhering to the German Reinheitsgebot (purity law) of 1516, which dictates that beer can only be brewed using water, barley, hops, and yeast.

History:

The brewery was established by Petra Wetzel, a German national who saw an opportunity to bring authentic German-style beer to Scotland. West is located in the Templeton Building, a historic landmark in the east end of Glasgow, originally built as a carpet factory modelled after the Doge's Palace in Venice.

Beers:

West produces a range of lagers and wheat beers, all brewed in accordance with the Reinheitsgebot. Their core range includes:

• St. Mungo: A helles lager, often considered their flagship beer.
• Hefeweizen: A classic German wheat beer.
• Munich Red: A malty red lager.
• Black: A dark, Schwarzbier style lager.

West also produces seasonal and limited-edition beers.

Bar and Restaurant:

In addition to the brewery, West operates a large bar and restaurant on site. The venue serves traditional German cuisine alongside its beers, and is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. It also hosts events and functions.
