Guru Gita

The Guru Gita (Devanagari: गुरु गीता, meaning "Song of the Guru") is a Hindu scripture that emphasizes the importance of the Guru, or spiritual teacher. It is traditionally recited, chanted, or sung, often as part of daily spiritual practice (sadhana).

While various versions of the Guru Gita exist, the most prevalent is believed to be a part of the Skanda Purana. Other versions are attributed to the Shiva Purana and the Padma Purana.

The text is typically presented as a conversation between Shiva and Parvati, where Parvati inquires about the nature of the Guru and the path to liberation. Shiva then expounds on the glory of the Guru, describing the Guru as a manifestation of the Divine, identical to Brahman. The Guru Gita highlights the significance of devotion, surrender, and unwavering faith in the Guru as essential for spiritual progress.

The verses extol the virtues of the Guru, emphasizing that through the Guru's grace, one can overcome ignorance, realize the self, and attain liberation (moksha). The Guru Gita also provides guidance on the qualities of a true Guru and the proper attitude a disciple (shishya) should cultivate.
