Skirbeck

Skirbeck is a village and civil parish in the Borough of Boston, Lincolnshire, England. It lies immediately to the north-west of Boston town centre and is essentially a suburb of the town.

Historically, Skirbeck was a much larger and more significant entity than it is today. It was one of the three wapentakes (administrative divisions) of the ancient Parts of Holland in Lincolnshire, the others being Kirton and Elloe. The Skirbeck Wapentake covered a substantial area of the Holland fens, including several parishes that are now separate administrative entities.

The name "Skirbeck" is of Old Norse origin, likely derived from "Skíra bekkr," meaning "clear stream" or "bright stream," referring to a watercourse in the area.

The parish church of Skirbeck is dedicated to Saint Nicholas. Historically, the area was largely agricultural, but its proximity to Boston has led to significant residential and commercial development in recent years. Skirbeck continues to function as a distinct parish within the wider Boston urban area.
