Thersander (Epigoni)

Thersander was a figure in Greek mythology, primarily known for his role as one of the Epigoni, the sons of the Argive heroes who had originally attacked Thebes in the failed first expedition.

He was the son of Polynices, one of the original Seven Against Thebes, and Argia, daughter of Adrastus, the king of Argos. Polynices was killed by his brother Eteocles during the first Theban war.

Thersander played a significant role in the second Theban expedition, the successful attack on Thebes led by the Epigoni. He is credited with killing Cleobulos, a Theban hero, during the battle. Following the victory, Thersander became king of Thebes.

Later accounts attribute other actions and accomplishments to Thersander, including leading an army to Mysia to help Telephus against the Greeks during the Trojan War, although his presence at Troy is inconsistent across different versions of the myth. Some accounts state he died at the hands of Telephus, while others say he died before the Trojan War.

His son, Tisamenus, succeeded him as king, ultimately leading the Thebans in their migration from Thebes due to omens and oracles. Thersander's lineage and participation in the Epigoni cycle cemented his place in the Theban and Argive mythological cycles.
