Brown County Courthouse (Ohio)

The Brown County Courthouse in Georgetown, Ohio, is the historic county courthouse serving Brown County. The current courthouse, completed in 1937, is the third courthouse to serve the county. It is located at 101 South Main Street in Georgetown.

The first Brown County Courthouse was a simple log structure built soon after the county's establishment in 1818. It served a limited purpose until a larger, more substantial brick courthouse was constructed in 1824. By the early 20th century, this second courthouse was deemed inadequate and unsafe.

A competition was held for the design of a new courthouse, and the architectural firm of Crowe, Schulte, and Associates of Cincinnati was selected. Construction began in 1936, and the new courthouse was dedicated on July 4, 1937. The Art Deco-style building is constructed of Indiana limestone and features a clock tower and various decorative elements including sculptures and murals depicting scenes from Brown County history and agriculture.

The courthouse houses the county's judicial and administrative offices. It is a central landmark in Georgetown and serves as a symbol of county government and justice. The building has undergone renovations and updates over the years to maintain its functionality and preserve its architectural integrity.
