Syed Modi

Syed Modi (December 31, 1962 – July 28, 1988) was an Indian badminton player. He was an eight-time National Badminton Champion and won the Men's Singles title at the 1982 Commonwealth Games.

Modi dominated the Indian badminton scene in the 1980s, achieving significant success in both national and international tournaments. He represented India in numerous international competitions, including the Olympics and World Championships. His victory at the 1982 Commonwealth Games remains a notable achievement for Indian badminton.

His career was tragically cut short when he was murdered in 1988 in Lucknow, India. The circumstances surrounding his death and the subsequent investigation garnered significant media attention in India.

In his honor, the Syed Modi International Badminton Championships, an annual badminton tournament held in India, is named after him. The tournament attracts players from around the world and serves as a lasting tribute to his contribution to Indian badminton.
