Al MacInnis

Al MacInnis (born July 11, 1963) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who played 23 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Calgary Flames and St. Louis Blues. He is widely regarded as one of the best offensive defencemen in NHL history, known for his booming slapshot, powerful skating, and playmaking ability.

MacInnis was drafted 15th overall by the Calgary Flames in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft. He played junior hockey for the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) before joining the Flames.

During his time with the Flames, MacInnis won the Stanley Cup in 1989 and the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of the playoffs. He also won the James Norris Memorial Trophy in 1999 as the NHL's best defenceman while playing for the St. Louis Blues.

Internationally, MacInnis represented Canada on numerous occasions, winning a gold medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and a silver medal at the 1991 Canada Cup.

MacInnis retired from professional hockey in 2005 due to an eye injury. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2007. After his playing career, he worked in the St. Louis Blues organization in various roles, including senior advisor to the general manager.

His jersey number 2 with the Calgary Flames and his jersey number 2 with the St. Louis Blues have both been retired by their respective teams.
