William Mahony (politician, born 1877)

William Mahony (1877 – June 11, 1960) was an Australian politician. He served as a Labor Party member of the Australian House of Representatives from 1915 to 1917 and again from 1919 to 1927, representing the Division of Dalley in New South Wales.

Born in Balmain, New South Wales, Mahony worked as a wharf labourer and became involved in union activities. He was elected to parliament in a 1915 by-election following the death of sitting member Robert Howe. He lost his seat in the 1917 election which saw significant Labor losses nationally due to divisions over conscription during World War I.

Mahony regained the seat of Dalley in 1919 and held it until he was defeated in 1927. His political interests focused primarily on working-class issues, particularly those affecting wharf labourers and the maritime industries. He was a strong advocate for improved working conditions and social welfare. He died in Sydney in 1960.
