HMCS Micmac
HMCS Micmac was a Tribal-class destroyer that served in the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) during the Second World War and the Korean War. Named after the Micmac First Nation, she was one of eight Tribal-class destroyers built for the RCN.
Micmac was laid down in September 1942 and commissioned in September 1945, just after the end of World War II. Therefore, she did not see active combat service during that conflict.
After the war, Micmac served with the RCN as part of Canada's contribution to NATO. She underwent modernization programs that included improvements to her radar and anti-submarine capabilities.
During the Korean War, Micmac deployed to Korean waters as part of Canada's naval task force. She participated in patrol and escort duties, as well as providing naval gunfire support to United Nations forces ashore.
Micmac was decommissioned in 1964 and later broken up for scrap. Her name and contributions are remembered as part of the history of the Royal Canadian Navy.
