Bahu Fort
Bahu Fort is a historical fort located in Jammu City, Jammu and Kashmir, India. Situated on the left bank of the Tawi River, the fort is believed to have been originally constructed by Raja Bahulochan, approximately 3000 years ago. The current structure, however, was largely rebuilt in the 18th century by the Dogra rulers.
The fort complex encompasses a temple dedicated to the Hindu goddess Kali, known as the Bawe Wali Mata temple. This temple is a significant pilgrimage site and draws large crowds, particularly on Tuesdays and Sundays. The fort is known for its impressive architecture, featuring thick walls made of sandstone and lime. It offers panoramic views of Jammu City and the surrounding landscape.
Adjacent to the fort is a terraced garden known as the Bagh-e-Bahu. This garden is a popular tourist attraction and provides a tranquil space for visitors. The Bagh-e-Bahu also houses a large aquarium, one of the largest of its kind in the region.
Bahu Fort stands as a testament to the region's rich history and is an important landmark of Jammu. It represents a blend of religious significance, architectural grandeur, and recreational opportunities.
