Kris Wu
Kris Wu (born Wu Yifan, Chinese: 吴亦凡; pinyin: Wú Yìfán; born November 6, 1990) is a Chinese-Canadian actor, singer, rapper, and former model. He was a member of the South Korean-Chinese boy band EXO and its subgroup EXO-M from 2012 until 2014, primarily active in China.
Following his departure from EXO, Wu pursued a solo career in China, achieving success in music and film. He released several singles and albums, and starred in Chinese films such as "Mr. Six" (2015), "Never Gone" (2016), and "Journey to the West: The Demons Strike Back" (2017). He also appeared in the Hollywood film "XXX: Return of Xander Cage" (2017).
Wu was a prominent figure in the Chinese entertainment industry and served as a brand ambassador for various international brands.
In 2021, Wu was detained by Chinese police on suspicion of rape. Subsequent investigations led to charges of rape and "group lewdness." In November 2022, he was sentenced to 13 years in prison in China, followed by deportation. The sentence included 11 years and six months for rape and one year and 10 months for "group lewdness." His assets within China were reportedly seized as well. This case generated significant controversy and public debate in China and internationally.
