Uzi (band)
Uzi was a Yugoslav and Serbian punk rock band formed in Belgrade in 1979. They were a significant act in the early Yugoslav punk scene, known for their energetic performances and socially conscious lyrics. The band's core lineup consisted of vocalist Aleksandar "Uzi" Ilić, guitarist Slobodan Nešović, bassist Branislav Petrović "Banana" and drummer Dušan Petrović.
Uzi released several singles and EPs during their active period in the early to mid-1980s. Their music often addressed political and social issues prevalent in Yugoslavia at the time, reflecting the rebellious spirit of the punk movement. Though they did not achieve widespread mainstream success, Uzi gained a dedicated following within the Yugoslav alternative music scene.
The band dissolved in the late 1980s. After their split, members pursued various other musical projects. Uzi remains a notable band in the history of Yugoslav punk rock. Their music is remembered for its raw energy and critical commentary on the society of its time.
