Poisson (crater)
Poisson is a lunar impact crater that lies on the southern reaches of Mare Fecunditatis. It is located to the southwest of the prominent crater Langrenus, and east-northeast of Beaumont.
The rim of Poisson is somewhat eroded, and has a slight outward bulge along the northwestern side. The inner walls are terraced, and slope down to a relatively uneven interior floor. There is a small central peak at the midpoint of the crater floor. A few small craterlets lie along the rim edge, and a tiny craterlet lies on the interior floor near the eastern inner wall.
The surrounding mare is relatively featureless, although several ghost craters and wrinkle ridges can be found in the vicinity. Poisson is named after the French mathematician and physicist Siméon Denis Poisson.
