Kosmos 97

Kosmos 97 was a Soviet satellite launched in 1965 as part of the Kosmos program. Primarily a research satellite, it was designed to study the Earth's upper atmosphere and near-space environment, including radiation belts and cosmic rays. Data collected from Kosmos 97 contributed to understanding the effects of space weather on spacecraft and future manned missions. The satellite also carried instruments to investigate the composition and density of the upper atmosphere. Kosmos 97 re-entered the Earth's atmosphere and burned up after completing its mission. Specific details regarding the satellite's exact instrumentation and the duration of its operational lifespan can be found in archival documentation from the Soviet space program.
