Tveit (municipality)
Tveit is a former municipality in the old Vest-Agder county, Norway. It was located in the present-day municipality of Kristiansand in Agder county. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1964.
The administrative center of Tveit was the village of Tveit, where Tveit Church is located. The municipality was primarily an agricultural area.
In 1838, municipalities were established in Norway through the Formannskapsdistrikt law. Tveit was one of these original municipalities.
Throughout its history, Tveit underwent several boundary changes. In 1901, a small area of Tveit was transferred to the neighboring municipality of Oddernes. In 1964, Tveit municipality was merged with Oddernes and Randesund to form the new Kristiansand municipality.
The name Tveit likely comes from the Old Norse word "Þveit" meaning "a cleared field" or "a piece of land cleared for cultivation."
