A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010 film)

A Nightmare on Elm Street is a 2010 American slasher film directed by Samuel Bayer and written by Wesley Strick and Eric Heisserer. It is a remake of the 1984 Wes Craven film of the same name, and stars Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger, alongside Rooney Mara, Kyle Gallner, Katie Cassidy, Thomas Dekker, and Clancy Brown.

The film reimagines the origin story of Freddy Krueger, a child molester who is burned alive by vengeful parents, then returns from the grave to terrorize teenagers in their dreams. The narrative follows a group of teenagers who discover they are all being haunted by the same terrifying figure in their dreams, and they realize that if they die in their dreams, they die in real life. They struggle to stay awake and uncover the truth about their shared past and Freddy Krueger's origins before it's too late.

Released theatrically on April 30, 2010, A Nightmare on Elm Street received generally negative reviews from critics, who criticized the performances, script, and lack of originality, particularly in comparison to the original film. Many also felt the film failed to capture the atmosphere and suspense of Craven's original. Despite the critical reception, the film was a box office success, grossing nearly $116 million worldwide against a budget of $35 million.
