Russell Williams (criminal)

Russell Williams (born March 8, 1963) is a former Canadian Forces Colonel and convicted serial rapist, kidnapper, and murderer. At the time of his crimes, he commanded Canadian Forces Base Trenton, Canada's largest air force base.

Williams' crimes included numerous burglaries, during which he photographed himself in women's lingerie he stole from his victims. His crimes escalated to sexual assault, and eventually murder. He was arrested in February 2010 and confessed to the murders of Jessica Lloyd and Corporal Marie-France Comeau, as well as several sexual assaults and hundreds of burglaries.

In October 2010, Williams pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated sexual assault, two counts of forcible confinement, and 82 counts of break-and-enter. He was sentenced to two concurrent life sentences with no possibility of parole for 25 years. He was also dishonourably discharged from the Canadian Forces and stripped of his military decorations.

The case garnered significant national and international media attention due to Williams' high-ranking position in the military and the shocking nature of his crimes. It raised questions about the vetting process for high-ranking officers and the potential for individuals in positions of power to commit such heinous acts.
