Frank Stephenson (ice hockey)
Frank Stephenson (born May 31, 1952) is a retired professional ice hockey player. He played primarily in the World Hockey Association (WHA) and later in the National Hockey League (NHL).
Stephenson's career began in the WHA with the Quebec Nordiques in the 1972-73 season. He spent several seasons with the Nordiques, showcasing a gritty and physical style of play. Known as a hardworking player, he contributed primarily as a defensive forward and penalty killer.
Following the merger of the WHA and NHL, Stephenson joined the Washington Capitals in 1979. He played for the Capitals until 1983, continuing his role as a defensive specialist. After his time with the Capitals, Stephenson played for the Boston Bruins during the 1983-84 season, marking his final year in the NHL.
Throughout his professional career, Stephenson was recognized as a reliable and tenacious player, valued for his defensive contributions and commitment to his teams. While not known for high offensive output, he solidified himself as a valuable asset in a defensive role.
