Greek destroyer Panthir (1912)
The Panthir was a Aetos-class destroyer built for the Royal Hellenic Navy prior to World War I. One of four ships of the class, she was ordered from Yarrow Shipbuilders in the United Kingdom in 1910 and launched in 1912. The Aetos-class destroyers were among the most modern and capable warships in the Greek fleet at the time of their commissioning.
Panthir saw service during the Balkan Wars (1912-1913) and World War I (1917-1918) following Greece's entry into the war on the side of the Allied Powers. During the period of Greek neutrality in World War I, the Allied powers seized the Greek fleet in October 1916; the Panthir was operated by the French Navy until Greece officially joined the Allies.
She continued to serve in the Royal Hellenic Navy after World War I and participated in the Greco-Turkish War (1919-1922). The Panthir, along with her sister ships, were modernized to varying degrees throughout their service lives. Specific details regarding the Panthir's individual actions and modifications can be found in naval histories focusing on Greek naval operations during these periods. The vessel was eventually decommissioned, with her final disposition currently unavailable but presumed to be scrapping.
