Conflict (1938 film)

Conflict is a 1938 British drama film directed by David MacDonald and starring Errol Flynn, Diana Wynyard, and Margaret Rutherford. The film is not to be confused with the 1945 Humphrey Bogart film of the same name.

The film centers around a successful surgeon, Professor Robert Glyn (Errol Flynn), who finds his professional life and marriage threatened by the arrival of a former lover, Jane Carter (Diana Wynyard), who is seeking his help. As Jane becomes a patient under his care, the rekindled emotions and old secrets lead to complications. The situation is exacerbated by the interference of gossipy and meddling neighbors, creating conflict both within the marriage and within the larger community. The film explores themes of jealousy, betrayal, and the destructive power of gossip. While primarily a dramatic piece, the film incorporates elements of suspense and melodrama. Margaret Rutherford, in an early role, provides comedic relief.
