Gusevo

Gusevo is a town in Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia. It is located on the Pissa River, about 112 kilometers east of Kaliningrad, the administrative center of the oblast.

Historically, Gusevo was founded in 1539 as the village of Gumbinnen, which was part of the Duchy of Prussia. In 1724, it was granted town privileges. Gumbinnen became part of the Kingdom of Prussia in 1701 and later part of the German Empire in 1871.

Following World War II, in 1945, the northern part of East Prussia, including Gumbinnen, was annexed by the Soviet Union. In 1946, Gumbinnen was renamed Gusevo in honor of Captain Sergei Ivanovich Gusev, a Soviet war hero who died in the fighting near the town.

Gusevo is now a district administrative center. The town's economy is based on various industries, including food processing, engineering, and construction materials production. The region surrounding the town is also important for agriculture.

Gusevo is known for its historical architecture, including several well-preserved buildings from the German period. The town also hosts several cultural events throughout the year. It is connected by road and rail to other major cities in Kaliningrad Oblast and neighboring regions.
