Rotaract

Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30. Rotaract clubs are either community-based or university-based and are organized and administered by a sponsoring Rotary club.

Purpose:

Rotaract focuses on the development of young adults as leaders in their communities and workplaces. Members address community needs, promote international understanding through service projects, and develop leadership and professional skills.

Organization:

Rotaract clubs operate at the local level under the guidance of their sponsoring Rotary club. Clubs determine their own activities, projects, and organizational structure, fitting their specific needs and interests. While guidance is provided by the sponsoring Rotary club, Rotaract clubs are self-governing.

Activities:

Rotaract activities typically fall into four categories:

• Club Service: Activities focused on strengthening the club fellowship and internal organization.
• Community Service: Projects aimed at addressing needs within the local community.
• International Service: Projects that promote understanding and goodwill with people in other countries.
• Professional Development: Activities designed to enhance the professional skills and knowledge of members.

Relationship to Rotary International:

Rotaract is one of Rotary International's youth programs. It is considered a partner with Interact (for ages 12-18) and Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA). Rotary clubs provide support and mentorship to Rotaract clubs, fostering a collaborative relationship. Successful completion of Rotaract programs often serves as a pathway to Rotary membership.

Membership:

Membership is open to adults ages 18 to 30 who demonstrate good character, leadership potential, and a commitment to service. Prospective members are typically sponsored by existing members or recruited through community outreach. Membership requirements and application processes may vary between clubs.

Impact:

Rotaract has a significant impact on communities around the world, with clubs undertaking a wide range of service projects, from environmental conservation to literacy programs. The program also plays a crucial role in developing future leaders and promoting international understanding.
