Pat Ryan (politician)
Pat Ryan (born March 17, 1982) is an American politician serving as the U.S. Representative for New York's 18th congressional district since 2022. A member of the Democratic Party, Ryan previously served as the County Executive of Ulster County, New York, from 2019 to 2022.
Prior to entering politics, Ryan served in the U.S. Army as an intelligence officer, completing two combat tours in Iraq. He later founded a technology company focused on helping veterans transition to civilian careers.
Ryan was first elected Ulster County Executive in a special election in 2019. During his tenure, he focused on issues such as environmental protection, affordable housing, and economic development.
In August 2022, Ryan won a special election to fill the vacant seat in New York's 19th congressional district following the resignation of Antonio Delgado, who became Lieutenant Governor of New York. He served in this capacity for a short period before being elected to the 18th congressional district in the regularly scheduled November 2022 election due to redistricting.
Ryan's political positions generally align with the Democratic Party platform. He has focused on issues related to veterans' affairs, economic opportunity, and environmental sustainability during his time in Congress.
