HMS Havelock (1915)
HMS Havelock was a Lord Clive-class monitor of the Royal Navy constructed during World War I. These monitors were designed to provide heavy firepower support for land operations, particularly along the Belgian coast. Launched in 1915, HMS Havelock was armed with two BL 12-inch Mk VIII guns mounted in a single turret.
The ship saw extensive service during the war, participating in bombardments of German positions. Its shallow draft allowed it to operate close to shore, delivering accurate and powerful fire support. The Lord Clive-class monitors proved valuable assets in the coastal warfare environment.
After the end of World War I, HMS Havelock was placed in reserve. It was subsequently decommissioned and eventually sold for scrap in 1927. The ship's relatively short lifespan was typical of many monitors built specifically for the unique demands of the Great War.
