Aluakpak

Aluakpak (ᐊᓗᐊᒃᐸᒃ) is an Inuktitut word referring to a large, usually dome-shaped snowdrift, often formed by strong winds. The term can also refer to a snowdrift that is large enough and hard enough to be used as a temporary shelter or as a lookout point. These drifts are a common feature of Arctic and subarctic landscapes and can be an important part of the winter environment for both humans and animals.
