Aluakpak

Aluakpak (ᐊᓗᐊᒃᐸᒃ) is an Inuktitut word referring to a large, usually dome-shaped snowdrift, often formed by strong winds. The term can also refer to a snowdrift that is large enough and hard enough to be used as a temporary shelter or as a lookout point. These drifts are a common feature of Arctic and subarctic landscapes and can be an important part of the winter environment for both humans and animals. Aluakpak drifts can vary significantly in size and density depending on weather conditions and the terrain.
