Frankie Byrne (broadcaster)
Frankie Byrne (1922-1993) was an Irish broadcaster, best known for her long-running advice programme, The Women's Page, later retitled Dear Frankie, on RTÉ Radio. Airing for over twenty years, from 1963 to 1984, Dear Frankie became a national institution, addressing social issues and personal problems with sensitivity and directness. Byrne offered practical advice on topics ranging from marital difficulties and family disputes to financial concerns and health matters. Her compassionate and empathetic approach made her a trusted confidante to generations of Irish women and men, and her programme is credited with opening up public discussion on previously taboo subjects in Irish society. Byrne's contributions to Irish broadcasting and her impact on social attitudes have cemented her legacy as a significant figure in Irish media history. She was also a columnist for the Irish Press.
