Tangeite

Tangeite is a rare phosphate mineral with the chemical formula CaCu(VO4)(OH). It is typically found as a secondary mineral in oxidized copper deposits, particularly in arid environments.

Properties: Tangeite forms as radiating or fibrous aggregates, often with a characteristic green or greenish-yellow color. It exhibits a vitreous luster and has a hardness of approximately 3 on the Mohs scale. Its crystal system is orthorhombic. The streak is typically pale green.

Occurrence: Tangeite is relatively uncommon. Notable occurrences include locations in the United States (Arizona, New Mexico), Chile, and Russia. It is often associated with other secondary copper minerals such as malachite, azurite, and chrysocolla.

Etymology: The mineral is named after the Tange Canyon in Utah, USA, where it was first discovered.

Uses: Due to its rarity, tangeite is primarily of interest to mineral collectors and researchers. It does not have significant industrial applications.
