Glasgow Anniesland (Scottish Parliament constituency)
Glasgow Anniesland is a constituency of the Scottish Parliament (Holyrood). It elects one Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) by the first past the post method of election. It is one of nine constituencies within the Glasgow region.
History and Boundaries:
Glasgow Anniesland was created in 1999 with the name and boundaries of the former Glasgow Anniesland constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. The constituency covers the Anniesland area of Glasgow and surrounding areas. Following the Fifth Periodic Review of Scottish Parliament Constituencies, the boundaries were redrawn for the 2011 Scottish Parliament election.
Constituency Area:
The constituency includes areas in the west of Glasgow, including Anniesland, Broomhill, Jordanhill, Scotstoun, Knightswood, and parts of Yoker. The character of the area is largely suburban, with a mix of residential housing, retail areas, and green spaces.
Electoral History:
Since its creation in 1999, Glasgow Anniesland has been a key battleground constituency. The results have varied over the years, reflecting changing political allegiances and the performance of different parties across Scotland.
List MSPs:
As a part of the Glasgow electoral region, Glasgow Anniesland contributes to the election of seven additional MSPs. These are elected from regional party lists, using a form of proportional representation known as the D'Hondt method, to produce a more proportional outcome for the region as a whole. These List MSPs represent the entire Glasgow region, not just the Glasgow Anniesland constituency.
