Hamiltonsbawn
Hamiltonsbawn is a small village and townland in County Armagh, Northern Ireland. It lies approximately 6 miles (9.7 km) east of Armagh city. Historically, it was part of the civil parish of Kilcluney and the barony of Fews Lower.
The village derives its name from James Hamilton, 1st Earl of Clanbrassil, who was granted lands in the area in the early 17th century during the Plantation of Ulster. "Bawn" refers to a fortified enclosure, a feature common in early Ulster plantations.
Hamiltonsbawn is situated in a predominantly rural area. Its economy is largely based on agriculture and related industries. Local amenities include shops, churches, and a primary school.
The village has a history of linen production, although this industry has declined significantly over time.
Hamiltonsbawn is within the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council area.
