Edward Harris (Royal Navy officer)
Edward Harris (1808 – 1888) was a British Royal Navy officer, diplomat, and Member of Parliament.
Harris entered the Royal Navy in 1820 and served in various postings throughout his career, rising to the rank of Vice-Admiral. His naval service included deployments to the Mediterranean and South America.
Beyond his naval career, Harris served as a diplomat. He was appointed Chargé d'Affaires and Consul-General to Peru in 1844, where he played a role in negotiating trade agreements. Later, he was appointed Minister Resident and Consul-General to Chile in 1852.
Harris also entered British politics, serving as the Conservative Member of Parliament for Christchurch from 1844 to 1852.
He was made a Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB).
